About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Knox, Indiana, Birdie's is a charming local restaurant that masterfully crafts a warm, inviting dining experience centered around classic American breakfast and comfort food. Whether you're craving a hearty morning meal or a satisfying lunch, Birdie's awaits with generous portions, remarkable flavors, and that unmistakable small-town atmosphere that makes every visit special.

The menu is a celebration of beloved comfort staples. Start your day with their biscuits and gravy, a soul-soothing dish where fluffy biscuits are drenched in rich, creamy sausage gravy that delivers every comforting bite. The pancakes are light and buttery, perfect for drizzling with syrup, while the shrimp and fries special offers a delightful twist for seafood enthusiasts craving something a bit different yet deeply satisfying.

For those who adore a protein-packed breakfast, the veggie omelet paired with wonderful potatoes offers a colorful and fresh flavor profile, balancing the rich, fluffy eggs with garden-fresh ingredients. The Monte Cristo sandwich, with its crispy exterior and melty, savory filling, is a decadent choice that showcases Birdie’s knack for elevating traditional dishes. Classic favorites like eggs and toast, or the combos featuring eggs, hashbrowns, and hot sauce or sausage, guarantee a satisfying start to your day or a comforting midday meal.

Birdie’s doesn’t stop at breakfast; their lineup of homemade soups and chili is a warm hug on a chilly day, priced affordably at just $4.49 and $5.49 respectively. The burger selection is equally impressive, from the straightforward hamburger to the indulgent bacon cheeseburger and the savory mushroom & Swiss burger. And for an extra touch of Midwest flair, their Manhattans with turkey, beef, or pork tenderloin bring robust, tender flavors that delight every time.

What truly sets Birdie’s apart is not just the food, but the hospitable atmosphere infused with genuine Midwestern charm. Stepping into Birdie’s feels like being welcomed into a close-knit community of locals who appreciate honest, comforting food served with a smile. As reviewer Neil Morrison enthusiastically noted, the hearty portions and value are as impressive as the flavors, calling their half order of biscuits and gravy paired with XXL eggs and home fries a “delicious and cheap” feast that could easily satisfy any appetite.

Frequent visitors applaud the restaurant’s consistently fantastic breakfasts and attentive, friendly staff who embody that small-town spirit. Suzi Noble’s praise for the “tasty” dishes and “large portions” sums up the Birdie’s experience perfectly, one where you leave full and happy, planning your next visit before you even walk out the door. Catherine Rough captures the magic beautifully: “I wouldn’t ordinarily order sausage, but they have the best breakfast sausage links on the planet,” she says, highlighting how Birdie’s takes even the simplest items to extraordinary levels through quality and care.

Whether you’re a traveler passing through or a local seeking a dependable spot for classic American breakfast and lunch, Birdie’s at 14 S Main St stands as a true Knox gem. Here, every dish tells a story of heartfelt cooking and community pride — delicious, generous, and unforgettable.

Holy Hell! Stopped here on the way home from camping through the weekend. Had one of 3 specials. For $7.99 got half order of biscuits and gravy, 3 xxl eggs and home fries. Took up the whole plate! Extremely good deal. Delicious and cheap.! Wish i would've took a pic.

Love this place! Breakfast is perfect every day. I wouldn’t ordinarily order sausage, but they have the best breakfast sausage links on the planet. And their burgers are also amazing. Couple the excellent food with the down-home, small-town charm, and it’s something no one should miss!

This place was highly recommended from a friend My granddaughter said her fries were the bomb the best she's ever had. In my breakfast consist of the BLT of course was wonderful. We stopped in around 10:30 on a normal Monday, and the place was still quite full. We were invited to seat ourselves. The food came out fairly quickly and was very good. I think my meal was especially filling for the $9 paid. I ordered the "hillbilly stacker," a full order of four biscuits and sausage gravy topped by three eggs cooked to order on a bed of what they call "American fries." The biscuits were excellent, and the gravy was some of the best I've had, with little morsels of sausage. The potatoes were similar to the chunk-style hash browns. My wife ordered chocolate chip pancakes. She received two decently-sized cakes cooked with a nice crisp to the exterior. I felt there were plenty of large milk chocolate chips. Our server was a nice older lady who initially brought us two smaller water glasses, then a few minutes later returned with two larger glasses of ice water. After bringing us our food and the check simultaneously, we didn't see her come by the table again. I didn't think they were that busy. It's a nice, cozy diner that's tastefully decorated. It has a homey, small-town feel that makes it a great stop if you're in the area. Finding a nearby parking spot might be tricky--we got lucky. One final note: they are a paper-not-plastic establishment. That is, they only take cash and checks (really?), but not credit/debit/etc. They do make that clear before you walk in, but now you know before you go. Which I recommend you do!
